leadership resources

One of the key pillars to becoming an effective leader is the ability to share with others and learn along side them. In this spirit, Leadership London encourages everyone, not just those who are registered in the formal program, to share resources on the topic of leadership.

Using the system below we highly encourage anyone to post and share stories, links, videos and books; just about any resource you can think of that would help someone to become a better leader.

Login with your Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, Google or OpenID account and start sharing resources.

How to Make Money and Change the World.

This is a free e-book that I found sometime last year and it gave me some great ideas and motivation on how you can both make a good living but give back to your community at the same time.

Given the outlook on life that many emerging leaders have, I thought this would be an appropriate resource to share.

The summary of the book is this:
“Raised with volunteer trips abroad, climate change on TV and everything ‘save the world’, today’s generation is more aware of the world and doing good than ever before. When it comes to getting jobs, however, we are still trying to figure out one simple thing: how do you make money and change the world?”

You can download a FREE copy of it here: http://www.myoccupation.org/

“Linchpins are the essential building blocks of great organizations. Like the small piece of hardware that keeps a wheel from falling off its axle, they may not be famous but they’re indispensable. And in today’s world, they get the best jobs and the most freedom.
Have you ever found a shortcut that others missed? Seen a new way to resolve a conflict? Made a connection with someone others couldn’t reach? Even once? Then you have what it takes to become indispensable, by overcoming the resistance that holds people back. ”

If you haven’t read Linchpin by Set Godin yet I think you should. It’s a great overview of the people in our communities that are indispensable and who lead in their own unique ways.

Some of my most important leadership lessons, aside from some awesome mentors, have been gained through reading the books and blogs of Dan Pink. The following, my fave, is a must read for the 21st century professional…

    A WHOLE NEW MIND
“Lawyers. Accountants. Computer programmers. That’s what our parents encouraged us to become when we grew up. But Mom and Dad were wrong. The future belongs to a very different kind of person with a very different kind of mind. The era of “left brain” dominance, and the Information Age that it engendered, are giving way to a new world in which “right brain” qualities-inventiveness, empathy, meaning-predominate. That’s the argument at the center of this provocative and original book, which uses the two sides of our brains as a metaphor for understanding the contours of our times…”

Make Ideas Happen: Overcoming the Obstacles between Vision & Reality

While this book focuses on creative individuals and while some are more productive than others there are some specific chapters that deal with leadership, teams and making the most out of these situations.

I’m 75% through this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for some tips on how to kick-start their productivity and ability to deliver, both from a individual and team perspective.
